Introducing Change in KM to an Organization
Related Chat Event:
Future of KM is not part of the vision in some of our efforts. I'd like to know how others are communicating up in the organization to introduce new KM concepts, the idea of supporting and leading innovation with KM, and what needs to happen now to be prepared for the future of KM.

I agree with @DustofMan that a champion/sponsor is essential, but I think that introducing new KM, like any major change, also requires a planned approach, including stakeholder analysis, readiness assessment, detailed communication plan, timeline, etc. For change to be sustainable, I think you need to involve and motivate others while also helping them see the value.
This would make a great discussion - I hope to see you moderating a chat soon!
I believe the critical element for future KM is to have a sponsor/champion that truly believes in the effectiveness of KM. Many times the results of KM are intangible, so it is a must that the leader can look outside of the box, having the trust and acceptance to allow KMers to move forward with ideas and innovation. If not, the roles of KMers will be moved back to information wranglers.
