Social Computing and Knowledge Management
Social networking tools have taken off in the past five years. Facebook has over 800 million users, Twitter over 200 million, and even newcomer Google+ with over 50 million.
The ubiquity of these tools in our personal lives has spilled over the firewall and into the enterprise, re-labeled as social computing. Social computing is a broad term that encompasses a range to tools, including blogs, wikis, profiles (with social/professional connections), microblogging and discussion forums.
During this chat we will discuss the differences and similarities between the social computing movement and knowledge management, how to reconcile and integrate the two, and the implications for KM over the next five years.
1. How do you define social computing, and how does it differ from KM?
2. What social computing tools and approaches are working well for you?
3. Where do informal social computing “communities” or team rooms fit in the context of communities of practice?
4. Should social computing tools be “managed?”
5. When does social computing and collaboration become KM? Is a boundary necessary or

During this chat we will discuss this issue, and we'll try to gather experiences, ideas, and communities where you can learn socially. We will not confine ourselves to schools, but also on the lifelong ongoing education it can bring.
Social Media: Time and Tools
How much time do you spend on social media? And at what part of the day? Do you use a nifty aggregate programs for your social media practices? Do they save time? Does anyone use other time saving methods or tools...

It seems that there should be a healthier relationship between SM and KM than there is today. We will explore the root of the differences and ways that we can blend the disciplines so that people can create something great.
1) How are SM people different from KM people? Why are they different
2) How has KM been impacted by the explosion of SM?
3) Is enterprise2.0 the blending of SM & KM? Is there an ideal blend?
4) What are next steps for KMers to include SM? Tactical Suggestions?
