For several years now, Knowledge Management has been having some trouble reconciling with the world of Social Computing. To the point where they do not seem to enjoy keeping each other's company within the corporate world anymore. To many of those social networkers, KM is an oxymoron (How can you manage knowledge?), and, as such, KM might have its days numbered. Imagine that; imagine that, for a moment, KM is gone from the knowledge sharing, social computing & collaboration landscapes within any organisation:

Q1: What would the business world be like? Would companies survive without their KM initiatives?
Q2: Will Social Computing be able to substitute, complement, augment or replace already existing KM initiatives? Should it?
Q3: What could Social Computing do to avoid the same "mistakes" KM might have made over the years in order not to fall on the same trap again?
Q4: Will Social Computing ever follow the same path and disappear pretty much like KM might do as well?

The nature of Homo Sapiens comprising three knowing tools components. The first is Peripheral Nerve System or Human Senses including our Autonomic Nerve System representing Human Knowledge with Lower Consciousness (KLC). The second is Central Nerve System or Mind Brain representing Human Knowledge with Medium Consciousness (KMC). The third is Human Consciousness DNA representing Human Knowledge with Higher Consciousness (KHC). If it is postulated that nature of Knowledge Management (KM) derived from the nature of Human or we could say Human System Biology (HSB)-based KM, then we will observe that KM Tools mainly generated from KLC, KM Process Framework generated from KMC as well as KM Standards (culture and value management) generated from KHC respectively ( http://mobeeknowledge.ning.com/forum/topics/brief-description-of-our )
Therefore, Knowledge Management (KM) basically is not management technique but behaving more as an access mechanisms that can be used across any management tool type covering so many management tools such as Total Quality Management, Learning Organization, Benchmarking, Process Classification Framework, Business Process Reengineering, Balanced Scorecard, Business Intelligence including Social Media platforms and/or Social Computing etc. wherein each with their specific functions to be orchestrated under KM’s consciousness. Those are some pretty interesting comments and follow up; but I wonder whether they move away, slightly, from what the business is seeing as KM, because somehow I sense it's moved away from the philosophical concepts behind Knowledge and managing knowledge right down into the business and somehow I fear that IT vendors may not care too much about that philosophical aspect of Knowledge, but more how to draw business value from it.
Still, I see there are very few differences between KM, i.e. knowledge sharing, and social computing since they are both on that growing need to share what we know with others and establish conversations; the outcomes may be different, but the principle that triggers them is still the same. It's just probably the situation where IT vendors haven't woken up to the idea of the conversation vs. the capturing of the knowledge. Or, am I missing something larger?
