Every occupation and CoP has persistent questions, issues, and problems, and for a domain of expertise to make progress it needs a robust and coherent research tradition that describes what gets researched, how, by whom, and with what purpose. It also describes where research results are revealed and what notice the practitioners give to it, and how they build on each other's work. Without a coherent research tradition, a domain becomes just a hobby or a social club.

  • Q0 On a scale of 0-5, where 0 = non-existent and 5= Absolutely thriving, how do you rate current KM research?
  • Q1 What are the persistent issues in KM that require research?
  • Q2 What prevents you from doing KM research?
  • Q3 No really, why aren't YOU doing any research?
  • Q4 What KM research do you read/use?
  • Q5 What should we do next in order to have a better research program?

Communities are strange entities. Sometimes they form by themselves and sometimes there is a need, but they do not form. Smart organizations are keeping their finger on the pulse of this need and applying smart resources when it is appropriate. This chat will cover some of the questions (and hopefully answers) that are important when thinking about how/when to develop and/or support a community.

  1. How do you know when a community is needed?
  2. What is the first thing to do to get your community started?
  3. What are some of the signs that the community is forming well?
  4. Are community online tools important? How about offline interactions?
  5. What type of steerage should the community have in the early stages?

No comments yet, but you can be the first!

Our community exists for nine months now. We want to use today's chat to explore experiences with previous chats, and ideas for future chats. We also want to investigate ideas for other (online) KMers events.

  • What did you think about the chats so far? What would make more relevant for you?
  • What could help to increase chat participants and community members?
  • Would you be interested in deepening your KMers membership by becoming community moderator?
  • Do you have ideas on other community activities we could organize?
